MEDFORD, Mass. – The Amherst College women's track and field team won four events at the Tufts Cupid Challenge on Saturday at the Gantcher Center.
Sophomore
Eliza Cardwell won the 60m hurdles, sophomore
Sylvan Wold won the 1000m, senior
Mary Kate McGranahan won the mile and the Mammoths captured the 4x400m relay.
Eight Mammoths qualified for the New England Division III Championships in new events, three of whom qualified in their first event this season. Amherst finished second of 14 teams at the meet with 132 points as host Tufts won the meet with 151 points.
The Mammoths are back in action next weekend (Feb. 10-11), competing in the Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Boston University, as well as the Middlebury Field and Track Meet on Saturday.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths showed off their distance depth with an impressive showing in the 1000m, sweeping the top three spots with five runners in the top eight. Wold was the winner with a time of 2:59.37, notching the first win of her collegiate career. Sophomore
Margo Pedersen was second in 3:00.43 and first-year
Bella Lozier was third in 3:01.46. First-year
Piper Lentz finished seventh in 3:04.37 and junior
Ally Deegan was seventh in 3:04.73 with all five Mammoths posting personal bests and times that qualify for the New England Division III Championships.
* McGranahan won the mile in a personal-best time of 5:09.59 to qualify for New Englands in her third event, while first-year
Allison Lounsbury finished third with a personal-best 5:12.94.
* Cardwell won the 60m hurdles in 8.94 seconds and remained unbeaten in the event through three meets this winter.
* Cardwell was also part of the winning 4x400m relay team, joining with first-years

Mads Rabb and sophomore
Casie Eifrig to clock a time of 4:03.87, the best time for the Mammoths this season.
