BOSTON – The Amherst College women's track and field team earned All-New England honors in four events as the Mammoths competed on the first day of the New England Division III Championships on Friday at the Track at New Balance.
Through 6 of 21 events, the Mammoths sit in fourth place out of 41 teams at the meet with 19 points. Defending champion Williams has the early lead with 55.33 points. The remainder of the events will take place tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 25) beginning at 9 a.m. as the Mammoths continue their quest for New England championships and All-New England honors, which are awarded to the top eight finishers in each event.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths finished third in the distance medley relay as the all-sophomore squad of
Julia Schor,
Casie Eifrig,
Ava Zielinski and
Sylvan Wold posted a time of 12:13.34.
* Senior
Mary Kate McGranahan placed fourth in the 5000m run with a personal-best time of 17:24.59 to earn her first All-New England honors.
* Junior
Trintje Nydam repeated All-New England honors with her fifth-place finish in the pentathlon. Nydam scored a career-best 2,978 points, including career-best marks of 8.35m in the shot put and 2:33.10 in the 800m.
* Sophomore
Eliza Cardwell repeated All-New England honors in the long jump with a season-best leap of 5.57m to finish fifth.
* Cardwell also placed first in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles with a season-best time of 8.83 seconds. The defending champion in this event, she will be one of eight hurdlers in tomorrow's final, along with first-year
Anastasia Ioppolo, who placed seventh in prelims in 9.20 seconds.
