BOSTON – The Amherst College men's track and field team posted four All-New England marks on the first day of the New England Division III Indoor Championships on Friday at the Track at New Balance.
All-New England honors are awarded to the top eight finishers in each event. Amherst's performances have the Mammoths in fifth place of 34 teams with 13 points through 5 of 20 events. Defending champion MIT leads with 32 points after the first day.
The remainder of the events will be contested tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 25) beginning at 9 a.m.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Sophomore
Yeob Kim finished third in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 7.06m in his first New England Championships. Junior
Adrian Friedman also scored All-New England honors in his championship debut with a mark of 6.75m to finish seventh.
* The Mammoths earned All-New England honors with a fifth-place finish in the distance medley relay. Sophomore

Will Merhige clocked a time of 10:05.01, the best time for an Amherst quartet this season.

Charlie Spurrell finished eighth in the weight throw to earn All-New England accolades with a mark of 16.03m.

Jordan Harrison finished second in the 60m dash preliminaries with a time of 6.96 seconds, winning his heat by five-thousandths (.005) of a second. He will be among the eight sprinters competing in tomorrow's finals.
* First-year
Zach Villegas sits in seventh place in the heptathlon midway through the competition. Villegas has scored 2,361 points, posting season-best marks in all four events so far.
