BOSTON, Mass.--
Marie-Eve Marleau scored twice Sunday and
Natalie Stott stopped all 20 shots she faced as the 2nd-ranked Amherst College women's hockey team blanked Bowdoin 4-0 in the championship game of the 16th annual Codfish Bowl hosted by UMass-Boston.
The Mammoths ran their record to 4-0-0 on the season. They next host Middlebury Friday at 7 p.m. at Orr Rink.Â
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Stott's day got off to an early Stott as she turned away three Bowdoin scoring attempts in the first 90 seconds of the game.Â
* Just 5 and 1/2 minutes into the game, Stott stopped a shot from Anyi Sun and then made a nice save on a rebound shot by Gia Massari.
* The Mammoths took the lead with 13:04 left in the first stanza.
Kelsey Stewart got the play started from the neutral zone when she hit
Mary Thompson with a pass as Thompson crossed the Bowdoin blue line. Thompson skated down to the lower right face-off circle and the delivered a perfect cross ice pass to Marleau, stationed at the far post. Marleau one-time the pass into the uncovered left side of the goal for a 1-0 lead.
* On the power-play late in the first period, the Mammoths doubled their lead. Again the play began in the neutral zone as
Jayna Park gained possession around the red line and skated into the Bowdoin zone. She approached the goal, but not seeing a good shot, skated behind the goal and back out to the left point, where she dumped yhr puck off to
Rylee Glennon. Glennon threw a pass out to Thompson at the blue line and Thompson returned the puck to Glennon, who drew a defenseman close to her before sliding a pass back to Thompson, who one-timed a low shot that found the bottom right-hand corner of the goal for a 2-0 lead.Â
* The second period featured scoring chances for each team, but the Mammoths limited the number of shots that got through to Stott, blocking five shots in the frame.
* With 29 seconds to go ni the period, Amherst scored a demoralizing goal to make it 3-0. There was a scrum in the high slot from which
Maeve Reynolds was able to push the puck foward to
Alyssa Xu. With a defenseman hanging on her, Xu approached the goal but passed up a point-blank shot at the last second, skated around the goal and tucked a wraparound shot inside the left post.
* Amherst closed the scoring with a goal in the third period, this one coming with 11:01 remaining. Marleau picked up her second goal of the game after one-timing a rebound off a Thompson shot into the top right-hand corner of the goal.Â

* Amherst finished with a 29-20 advantage in shots
* There were five penalties in the game, all called on Bowdoin. The Mammoths went 2 for 5 on the power-play in the contest.
