AMHERST, Mass. – With
Natalie Stott's 31 saves and
Jayna Park's two goals, the second-ranked Amerst College women's hockey team cruised past fifth-ranked Middlebury Friday night at Orr Rink, 4-0.
The second-ranked Mammoths advanced to 5-0-0 with the win, and the Panthers fall to 4-2-0. Amherst will face the Panthers again tomorrow, Saturday, December 2 at 3 p.m. back at Orr Rink.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* With 16:49 left in the first period
Maeve Reynolds had a close scoring opportunity, one-timing a pass from lacrosse the net from
Rylee Glennon to the right corner. The shot was blocked by the Panthers.
* With 8:38 left, Raia Schluter had a breakaway down the right side of the ice, shooting to bottom right. The puck was stopped and rebounded by Stott and was cleared out of Middlebury's scoring third by Park.
* With 1:44 left, on a man-down play for Amherst, Reynolds stole the puck from the Panthers and broke away down the left side of the ice. She cut in front of the goal shooting to the top left past Sophia Will earning the Mammoths their first goal of the game.
* In the second period with 11:55 left, during a power play for Amherst, shot from top right by
Gretchen Dann, her rebound was found by Park who buried the puck into the back of the net.
* With 9:51 left,
Kelsey Stewart shot from top right, her shot was rebounded by Will. Marie Marleau passed the puck in front of the goal, connecting with Park who found the back of the net, scoring her second goal of the game.
* In the third period, with 16:42 left,
Alyssa Xu fed from behind fining Glennon in front of the net, who pushed the puck past Will for the Mammoths' fourth goal.
* With 5:42 left Olivia McManus shot from high right, it was rebounded to the front of the goal. Avery McIrnerny got another touch, but Stott dove and stopped the puck.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* The Panthers outshot Amherst 23-9 in the first period. Amherst outshot the Panthers 18-17 in the second, and 14-13 in the third.
* The Mammoths won 34 of the 51 face-offs, with Reynolds and
Anna Baxter each winning 11.
* Middlebury was whistled for 2 penalties, the Mammoths' none.
* Stott made 31 saves, Will made 22.
