#2 Mammoths clip Beacons 1-0 in Codfish Bowl semifinal

BOSTON, MA –  Amherst College defeated the Beacons 1-0 in the semifinal game of the Codfish Bowl tournament at Barry Ice Rink on Saturday afternoon.  

The 2nd-ranked Mammoths improve to 3-0-0 with the win, while the Beacons fall to 3-4-3. Amherst will play at Barry Ice Rink again tomorrow, Sunday, November 26, at 4pm against Bowdoin College in the championship game of the Codfish Bowl.


GAME HIGHLIGHTS: 

* The Mammoths started a power-play 7:09 minutes into the first period, resulting in their first big opportunity to goal. Rylee Glennon cruised through the Beacon's defense shooting to the middle of the goal, which UMASS Boston goalie Leah Bosch saved. 

* Following the end of the power play, with 10:33 left, Carlisle Brush came off the bench hot shooting to the bottom left corner, almost getting past Bosch, but the puck was caught. 

* With 10:06 left Adriana Crepaldi, had a breakaway shooting high left. She was stopped by goalkeeper Natalie Stott, who seconds later had a sliding stop as Margeaux Butters shot to the bottom left with 9:20 left. 

* Only 52 seconds into the second period, off a pass from Alyssa Xu, Glennon had a breakaway goal coming from the left and skating across the front of the goal. She shot right through the Beacon keeper into the back of the net. 

* With 11:54 left shot by Xu from far from the left, the puck almost got through and was loose until Bosch landed on top. 

* Only 2:30 minutes into the third period Gretchen Dann stopped Jenna Majewski on a one-on-one break down the center of the ice. 

* Marie-Eve Marleau almost added to the score 4:43 into the third with a one-time shot off a pass from behind right in front of the goal. The puck was caught by Bosch. 

* With 1:23 left, off a faceoff Melina Maggio took a shot from top left, which was blocked by Mary Thompson. Amherst countered with a shot from Dann, which was stopped by Bosch. 


BY THE NUMBERS:

* Amherst outshot the Beacons 70-26 overall, outshooting them 23-8 in the first, 20-10 in the second, and 70-26 in the third.

* The Mammoths won 29 of the 43 face-offs, with Maeve Reynolds making the most of her time in the circle winning 14 of 18 faceoffs.

* Hamilton was whistled for 3 penalties, the Mammoths' none.

* Bosch made 32 saves and Stott made 15.
