BOSTON – Sophomore Eliza Cardwell won the 60m hurdles and senior Mary Kate McGranahan won the 5000m to highlight action for the Amherst College women's track and field team at Middlebury's New England Small College Invitational on Sunday on the banked turns of the Track at New Balance.

Team scores were not tallied in the meet, which featured all 11 NESCAC schools in a tantalizing preview of April's conference championships.

The Mammoths are back in action on Saturday (Feb. 4), traveling to Medford for the Tufts Cupid Challenge beginning at 10 a.m.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

* Cardwell clocked a time of 8.85 seconds in the 60m hurdles, the fastest time among New England Division III athletes this season and 10th-fastest time in all of Division III this season. The top 20 in each individual event at the end of the season earn berths in the NCAA Championships. Cardwell has won both of her starts in the 60m hurdles this season. First-year Anastasia Ioppolo also booked her ticket to the New England Division III Championships with a time of 9.38 that was good for eighth in the event.

* McGranahan also posted a top-20 national time in her event, winning the 5000m in a personal-best 17:25.31. McGranahan's time ranks 5th in New England and 16th nationally. She has won both races she has entered this indoor season. First-year Allison Lounsbury (17:58.98) finished fourth and sophomore Claire Callon (18:10.57) finished sixth to qualify for the New England Division III Championships in the event.

* The distance medley relay squad of junior Ally Deegan, sophomore Margo Pedersen and first-years Piper Lentz and Bella Lozier notched a time of 12:44.85 to rank ninth in Division III this season. The top 12 relay teams earn berths in the NCAA Championships. The Mammoths finished fifth in a fast field that Wesleyan led with the best time in the nation so far this season.
