AMHERST, Mass. --
Matt Toporowski and
Spencer Kimball scored goals Saturday night and
Dan Dachille stopped all 18 shots he faced as the Amherst College men's hockey team blanked Anna Maria College, 2-0, at Orr Rink.
The Mammoths improved to 11-3-2 on the season with their fifth consecutive victory. They are off until Friday when they face-off against conference rival Wesleyan on the road at 7 p.m. Anna Maria fell to 8-10-1 on the season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Despite dominating the shot chart by an 11 to 3 count in the first period, the game was scoreless until the 2:47 mark of the second period.
* Amherst had a 5-on-3 power play and took advantage as Toporowski received a pass from
Tyler Bourque at the left point, slid a bit of his right and unloaded a slapshot that beat Amcat goalie Aidan Richardson to the top shelf on the right for the 1-0 lead.
* The Mammoths continued to have the better of the play, but found it difficult to beat Richardson again despite six power plays in the game. With 15:36 remaining in the game, the Mammoths found the insurance they were looking.
Zachary Murray and
Ryan Tucker used a joint effort to win the puck along the right side boards in the Amcats zone. Murray took control and slid a pass to the right point and teammate
Michael Gallagher. Gallagher threw it across to Kimball, who took a stride or two toward the goal and fired a shot that beat Richardson.
* Dachille and company handled the rest. The Mammoth goalie, making just his second start, was his busiest in the third period, making 11 saves.

* Amherst won 35 of the 60 face-offs. Murray won 14 of the 19 he drew.
