MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Junior Trintje Nydam of the Amherst College women's track and field team finished second in the pentathlon to kick off the Middlebury Winter Classic on Friday at Virtue Field House.

Nydam tallied a personal-best 2,882 points to qualify for the New England Division III Championships, including personal-best marks in the 60m hurdles and the shot put.

Middlebury first-year Emily Rubio won every event in the pentathlon to win the competition with 3,440 points. A deep field in the pentathlon gave St. Lawrence the early lead in the team standings with Amherst sitting third.

The rest of the Mammoths will be in action tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 21) for a full day of track and field from Middlebury beginning at 11 a.m.
