MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Amherst College men's track and field team opened the indoor season by winning the Little Three Championship on Saturday at Wesleyan's Bacon Field House. The Mammoths won 10 of the 17 events and successfully defended their Little Three title after capturing the crown when the championship was last awarded in 2020.
The Mammoths continue the indoor season next Saturday (Jan. 21), traveling to Vermont to compete in the Middlebury Winter Classic.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Sophomore
David Brown opened his season by winning the shot put, his first collegiate win in that event, with a mark of 13.99m to qualify for the New England Division III Championships. Brown also finished second in the weight throw, qualifying for New Englands in that event as well with a personal-best mark of 14.32m.
* The Mammoths swept the top three spots in the weight throw. First-year
Charlie Spurrell won in his collegiate debut, qualifying for the New England Division III Championships with a throw of 15.90m. Brown was second and senior
Jack Renda finished third with a mark of 13.00m.
* Senior
Kelechi Eziri won the triple jump with an NED3-qualifying mark of 13.44m. He also scored in the long jump with a leap of 6.35m to finish third.
* A win in the 4x800m relay capped a strong afternoon for the Amherst distance runners. Junior

Jack O'Hara teamed to clock a time of 8:09.50.
* O'Hara also claimed the 600m in 1:23.40, his first win in the event with a personal-best time that qualifies for the New England Division III Championship. Davis also qualified for New Englands with a third-place finish in 1:25.03 in his collegiate track debut.
* Markov-Riss finished first in the 800m with a New England-qualifying time of 1:55.60, his first collegiate 800m win.
* First-year
George Cahill captured the mile run in his collegiate track debut, posting a time of 4:20.72 to lead a fast field. Cahill's time qualifies for the New England Division III Championships along with Merhige, who finished fourth in 4:22.88 and first-year
Aidan Gemme, who clocked in at 4:26.05 to take sixth in his collegiate track debut.

Ian Dopp claimed the 1000m race for his first collegiate win, qualifying for the New England Division III Championships with a time of 2:38.75.
* First-year
Jordan Harrison won the 200m in his collegiate debut with a New England-qualifying time of 23.17 seconds.

Adrian Friedman won the long jump with a personal-best mark of 6.58m, his first collegiate win and a mark that qualifies for the New England Division III Championships. Friedman also set a personal best with a 12.07m triple jump to finish fourth.
