Kat Mason scored twice and senior
Natalie Hobbs added two assists Saturday as the 12th-ranked Amherst College field hockey rolled by 11th-raned Bates by a 5-0 score.
Amherst improved to 5-2 overall, 1-2 in the NESCAC while the Bobcats fell to 4-3 overall and is now 2-2 in conference play. The Mammoths are at Colby Sunday at 12 p.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Mason put the Mammoths up 1-0 just 2:14 into the contest with her third goal of the season. Just over five minutes later, senior
Beth Williamson scored her first goal of the season to make it 2-0 Amherst and that's the way the first quarter ended.
* With 7:32 left in the second quarter,
Muffie Mazambani scored her seventh goal off the season off an Hobbs assist. Less than two minutes later, Hobbs set up
Jackie D'Alleva, who converted the pass for her team-leading seventh goal of the season which gave the Mammoths a 4-0 halftime lead.
* Mason concluded the score early in the fourth quarter.
Abbey Kays fired a shot from the left side of the circle that hit the post. Mason was the first to the rebounds and swatted a shot past the keeper for a 5-0 lead.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* Amherst held a 13-7 edge in shots, putting eight on the cage compared to only two shots on goals for Bates. The Bobcats held the edge in corners, 8-3.

Sara Nidus made two saves for the Mammoths to record the shutout.
