GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Hobbs gave the Mammoths an early lead with 2:53 remaining in the first quarter when she took a pass from
Justine Liguori in the circle, turned and fired a perfect shot just inside the far left post.
* Colby tied the score just second before the end of the first quarter, but it was all Amherst after that. The Mammoths snapped the 1-1 tie only 2:23 into the second stanza when senior
Beth Williamson converted a penalty stroke opportunity for her second goal of the season. It went to 3-1 with just over six minutes to go before the half as Ligouri and Hobbs teamed up again. Liguori fired a pass toward the goal and Hobbs, stationed in front of the keeper, re-directed the ball between the legs of the goalie and into the net for the two-goal lead.
* Two more goals in the third quarter made it 5-1 Amherst. First,
Sam Maynard was the recipient of a golden opportunity and she did not miss. The Colby keeper stopped a shot but could not control the rebound. Maynard poked it away from the keepers feet and into an empty net for the 4-1 lead.
Kat Mason scored her fifth goal of the season with 7:21 left in the third. After Williamson fired a shot on goal on a penalty corner opportunity, Mason collected the ball on the end line to the left of the goal and with nearly zero angle at all, executed a beautiful shot that found the back of the goal.
* First year
Anna Aiello closed the scoring with 3:43 to go in the game, receiving a great pass from
Gwen Allen while in the circle and firing shot into the far left of the goal.
