WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Senior
Anna Madden earned All-New England honors in two events as the Amherst College women's track and field team competed at the New England Division III Championships on Saturday at Williams College. Madden was one of eight Mammoths to earn All-New England accolades, which are awarded to the top eight finishers in each event.
The Mammoths are back in action next weekend, taking on the best in New England from all three NCAA divisions at the NEICAAA Outdoor Championships, beginning on Friday (May 13) at 4:20 p.m. at Bryant University.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Madden finished second in the 400m with a time of 57.52 seconds to earn her first individual All-New England award.
* Madden teamed with seniors
Juanita Jaramillo and
Katie Lingen and first-year
Eliza Cardwell to run the 4x400m relay in 3:53.01, a season-best time for the Mammoths and an All-New England third-place finish.
* Two Mammoths earned All-New England honors in the 1500m as first-year
Julia Schor finished second in 4:39.26 and sophomore
Ally Deegan was sixth, posting a time of 4:42.33 in her New England Championship debut.
* Junior
Ava Tillman earned her first All-New England award with a personal-best time of 1:05.06 to finish third in the 400m hurdles and qualify for the NEICAAA Championship.
* First-year
Claire Callon ran a personal-best time of 11:31.23 to finish sixth in the 3000m steeplechase and earn All-New England honors in her New England Championship debut.
* Despite entering a small contingent of athletes, the Mammoths finished tied for eighth among the 33 teams that scored at the meet with 34 points. MIT won the championship with 103 points.
