CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior Kelechi Eziri broke the Amherst school record in the men's triple jump to highlight action from the Amherst College track and field teams at the MIT Final Qualifier on Thursday at Steinbrenner Stadium.

Eziri hopped, skipped and jumped 14.57m on his final attempt to win the event and break the Amherst outdoor school record of 14.43m set in 1986 by David Shula '86. Eziri also holds the Amherst indoor triple jump record, setting a mark of 14.32m in March.

Junior Ellis Phillips-Gallucci set a personal best in the men's 400m hurdles, clocking a 53.45 to finish second in the field.

First-year Julia Zacher cleared 1.58m to finish third in the women's high jump and classmate Julia Schor posted a time of 4:36.02 in the women's 1500m to finish fifth.

Despite personal bests for both Eziri and Phillips-Gallucci, it appears they will fall just short of qualifying for the upcoming NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. The top 20 times nationwide in each men's event qualify for the national championships and as results continue to come in on the final day of qualifying, Phillips-Gallucci ranks 23rd and Eziri ranks 24th in their respective events.

The top 22 qualify for each women's event and Zacher's high jump mark of 1.67m from the Amherst Spring Fling earlier this season currently ranks 21st. Two other Mammoths who did not compete today are in strong position to qualify on the women's side. Junior Sophia Wolmer ranks 8th in the 10,000m and 13th in the 5000m and first-year Eliza Cardwell ranks 15th in the 400m hurdles and 16th in the 100m hurdles. Entries beyond the top 22 are possible in the event of scratches.

The official list of qualifiers will be posted on NCAA.com by 8 p.m. Friday (May 20) for the championship meet that runs from May 27–29 in Geneva, Ohio.
