CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Mammoths swept the top three spots in the 400m hurdles as the Amherst College men's track and field team competed at the Sean Collier Invitational, hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Saturday on the Morrison Track at Steinbrenner Stadium. Athletes from all three NCAA divisions competed at this meet, which was not team scored.
The Mammoths now turn their attention to championship season, kicking off with the NESCAC Championships next Saturday (April 30) at Hamilton College.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Junior
Ellis Phillips-Gallucci led Amherst's sweep of the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 55.76. Sophomore
Alton Machen was second in 58.65 and junior
Max Spelke finished third in a personal-best 59.53.
* Sophomore
Camden Heafitz qualified for the New England Division III Championships in the high jump, clearing 1.96m for a collegiate best and a second-place finish behind only Chet Ellis of Division I Harvard.
* Machen ran the 110m hurdles in a personal-best 15.57 to finish fifth.
* Sophomore
Kolya Markov-Riss ran a season-best 1:56.16 to claim ninth place in the 800m.
* Senior
Robert Innes-Gold ran a personal-best time of 4:06.61 to finish 10th in the 1500m.
