Colleran leads Smith-King heptathlon after Day 1

MEDFORD, Mass. – Senior All-American Troy Colleran of the Amherst College men's track and field team is in the lead in the heptathlon at the end of the first day of competition in the Branwen Smith-King Multis after Friday's competition at the Tufts Cupid Challenge at the Gantcher Center.

Through four of seven events, Colleran leads the field with 2,841 points as Tufts junior Carter Rosewell is second with 2,612 points. Colleran finished second to Rosewell in both the 60m dash and the long jump with a New England Championship qualifying time in the long jump. Colleran was second again in the shot put but this time it was Amherst junior Jack Trent taking the top spot before Colleran posted the top mark in the high jump to close the evening.

Trent sits in fourth with 2,508 points after posting personal bests in the 60m dash, long jump and high jump. Amherst junior Max Spelke is seventh with 2,302 points, setting personal bests in the long jump and high jump.

The heptathlon competition concludes tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 5) at 10 a.m. along with a full slate of track and field events at the Tufts Cupid Challenge.
