WATERVILLE, Maine – The Amherst College women's track and field team earned All-New England honors in four events to kick off action at the New England Division III Indoor Championships on Friday at Colby College's Alfond Athletics & Recreation Center.
Through 5 of 21 events, the Mammoths sit in sixth place out of the 17 teams that scored on the first day of action with 17.5 points. The top eight finishers in each event earn All-New England honors. Defending champion Williams leads with 44 points with the bulk of the action happening tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 26) beginning at 10:30 a.m.
DAY 1 HIGHLIGHTS
* An all-first-year foursome of
Margo Pedersen,
Casie Eifrig,
Ava Zielinski and
Julia Schor finished third in the distance medley relay in 12:18.24, Amherst's best finish in the event since 2013.
* Junior
Annelise Romero finished fourth in the pentathlon and sophomore
Trintje Nydam was eighth. Romero scored a season-best 2886 points to earn her third career All-New England finish after placing in both the pentathlon and triple jump in 2020. Nydam scored 2640 points in her championship debut.
* Junior
Sophia Wolmer finished fourth in the 5000m run, clocking a time of 17:20.22 that ranks in the top 20 nationally in Division III. She earned All-New England honors for the second time after finishing second in the 3000m in 2020.
* First-year
Jordan Hecker nabbed an All-New England finish in the pole vault, clearing 3.31m to tie for eighth.
