MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Mammoths distance medley relay team earned All-New England honors to highlight action for the Amherst College men's track and field team on the first day of the New England Division III Indoor Championships at Middlebury College's Virtue Field House.

The Mammoths finished sixth in the distance medley relay as sophomores Braedon Fiume and Charlie Clary, first-year Jack O'Hara and junior Owen Daily teamed to post a time of 10:22.88, Amherst's best time this season. Fiume and Daily are repeat All-New England finishers in this event after helping the Mammoths to a third-place finish in 2020 while Clary and O'Hara are making their championship debuts. The top eight finishers in each event earn All-New England honors.

Junior Jack Trent sits in third in the heptathlon after four of seven events with 2601 points, just 49 points behind leader Jackson Anderson of Williams. Trent had the best score of the heptathletes in the shot put with a mark of 12.29m.

Amherst's DMR finish gave the Mammoths 3 points to sit in 10th place after the first day of action, though only 3 of 20 events have been completed. Defending champion MIT has the early lead with 50 points after winning two of the first three events. The rest of the action happens tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 26) beginning at 10 a.m.
