BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Amherst College women's track and field team won four events to highlight action at the Lynn Ruddy Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Bowdoin College's Farley Field House.
Junior
Annelise Romero kicked off the meet with a win in the pentathlon on Friday night and a trio of first-years won events on Saturday as
Ava Zielinski won the 800m,
Sidnie Kulik took the mile and
Sophia Price was first in the 3000m.
The Mammoths, ranked third in the Mideast Region in the latest
USTFCCCA regional rankings, will be back in action next weekend, competing for New England titles at the New England Division III Indoor Championships at Colby College on Feb. 25-26.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
* Zielinski won the 800m with a collegiate-best time of 2:18.50 for her first win in a collegiate race. Junior
Sierra Donovan finished second, qualifying for the New England Division III Championships with a personal-best time of 2:23.44.
* Kulik won the mile, her first collegiate race at the distance, with a New England qualifying time of 5:08.37. Kulik has won all three races she has entered this indoor season.
* Price won the 3000m, qualifying for New Englands with a collegiate-best time of 10:37.61 and notching her first collegiate win.
* Romero won the pentathlon on Friday night with a season-best score of 2811 points, including a personal-best mark of 9.37m in the shot put.
* Sophomore
Nicole Barbaro finished second in the 600m with a New England qualifying time of 1:40.96 in her indoor collegiate debut.
* First-year
Payton Sorensen cleared a collegiate-best 3.10m in the pole vault to qualify for New Englands and finish fourth in the pole vault, just behind classmate
Eve Giancarlo, who also cleared 3.10m.
* First-year Anaya Thomas qualified for New Englands with a collegiate-best 9.58 in the preliminaries in a fast 60m hurdles field.
