MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Amherst College men's swimming and diving team took the early lead in the race for the Little Three Championship with a 175.5-103.5 dual meet win over Wesleyan University on Monday evening at the Webster Family Natatorium.

Andrew Bernstein, each won an individual race as well. The Mammoths improved to 2-0 on the season while the Cardinals fell to 0-3.
The race for the Little Three Championship will continue when Williams visits Wesleyan on Dec. 10 and conclude when Amherst hosts Williams on Jan. 7. The Mammoths, ranked eighth in the Northeast-North region in the latest CSCAA Division III poll, return to action on Saturday, Dec. 3, hosting NESCAC rival Middlebury at 1 p.m. in Pratt Pool.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* The meet began with Olson, Loveless, Moy and Bernstein posting a time of 1:33.53 to win the 200 medley relay as the Mammoths opened the season with back-to-back wins in the event.
* In a meet that highlighted the sprints with 50-yard races in each stroke, Olson excelled, winning the 50-yard backstroke in 23.47 and the 50-yard butterfly in 22.92 to open his season with wins in his first four individual races of the season.
* Loveless went on to win the 50-yard breaststroke in 26.76 for his first collegiate win at that distance as the Mammoths took the first four spots in the event.
* Moy won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.77 as the Mammoths swept the top four spots in the race.
* Bernstein won the 100-yard freestyle in 48.09 in another race that saw the Mammoths finish in the top four positions.
* First-year
Michael Jang won his first collegiate entry in the 400-yard individual medley, touching in 4:10.08 to lead an Amherst sweep of the top three places.
* Junior
Will Taylor won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.47 for his first collegiate win in the event.
* Sophomore
Andrew Yuen touched first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.75 for his first individual win of the season.
* Sophomore
Tor Metelmann led an Amherst sweep of the top three spots in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 57.78.
* Junior
Tyler Knightly won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:42.74, his first collegiate win at that distance.
