WILLIAMSTOWN, MA --
Caitlin Walker stopped all 25 shots she faced Friday night while
Kate Pohl scored twice, leading the Amherst College women's hockey team to a 5-0 shutout victory over rival Williams at Lansing Chapman Rink.
Amherst improved to 5-5 overall, 2-4 in the conference while the Ephs fell to 7-4, 3-4 in NESCAC play. The two teams will meet again Saturday night, this time at Orr Rink in Amherst, at 7:30 p.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
* Pohl gave the Mammoths a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal that came with 6:20 remaining in the first period.
Anna Baxter backhanded a shot from the mid-slot that Eph goalie Chloe Heiting stopped, but Pohl, stationed at the left post, was able to swipe the rebound quickly into the goal.
* Only 1:59 later,
Avery Flynn converted another Amherst power-play opportunity, scoring off an assist from
Rylee Glennon for a 2-0 lead.
* Pohl's second goal of the game came 3:33 into the second period off an assist from Baxter. The Mammoths then added third-period markers from
Jayna Park and
Carley Daly to seal the victory.

* The 2 goals from Pohl were her first two of the season. With her goal and assist, Daley now leads the Mammoths with 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists).
* Walker made 11 of her 25 saves in the third period while lowering her goals against average to 1.77 and increasing her save percentage to .929.
