UTICA, N.Y. -- Pioneers goalie Sean Dickson stopped all 16 shots he faced to lead second-ranked Utica College to a 3-0 win over the Amherst College men's ice hockey team in the semifinals of the Utica College Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday night at the Adirondack Bank Center.
The Mammoths (1-2) move on to face UMass Boston in the consolation game at 4 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 27) while the Pioneers (7-1) won their sixth straight game and will face top-ranked SUNY Geneseo in tomorrow's championship game.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Mammoths held the high-powered Utica offense - the highest-scoring offense in the nation - in check through a scoreless first period, but the Pioneers broke through in the second when John Moncovich scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season.
- The game remained a one-goal contest until late in the third when the Pioneers scored twice. Mic Curran scored his first of the season at the 14:39 mark and Regen Cavanagh netted his seventh of the year at 17:08.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pioneers held a 24-16 advantage in shots on goal while the Mammoths had a 28-23 edge in faceoffs.
- Both sides were perfect on the penalty kill as the Mammoths were 0-for-4 on power plays and the Pioneers were 0-for-7.
- The Mammoths held the Pioneers to three goals, matching Utica's lowest offensive output of the season.
