CLINTON, N.Y. -- Sidney Molnar saved all 36 shots she faced to lead Hamilton College to a 2-0 win over the Amherst College women's ice hockey team in NESCAC action on Sunday at Sage Rink.
The defending NESCAC champion Mammoths (0-2), ranked eighth in the latest USCHO Division III poll, return to the ice on Saturday (Nov. 27) at 3 p.m., hosting Manhattanville for their home opener at Orr Rink. Today's game wrapped up a two-game season-opening NESCAC series against the Continentals (2-0).
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Continentals scored both goals in the second period, getting on the board 1:21 into the frame when Nancy Loh scored her first goal of the season.
- The Continentals added another goal on the power play at the 16:11 mark in the second as Abby Kuhns fired a shot that Claire McGennis tipped in for her first collegiate goal.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Mammoths held a 36-23 advantage in shots on goal but were unable to get anything past Molnar, whose 36 saves were a career high.
- The Mammoths were only whistled for two minor penalties, but Loh scored for the Continentals on Hamilton's first power-play opportunity, while Amherst was 0-for-5 on the power play.
- The Mammoths held a 34-30 edge in faceoffs with first-year Anna Baxter going 12-5 at the dot.
