#8 Mammoths Drop 3-1 Decision at Hamilton in Season Opener

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Two third-period goals from Allie Curry led Hamilton College to a 3-1 win over the eighth-ranked Amherst College women's ice hockey team in the season opener for both squads on Saturday night at Sage Rink. Junior forward Carley Daly scored for the defending NESCAC champion Mammoths, playing in their first game since March 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic scuttled the entire 2020-21 season.

The Mammoths and Continentals complete their two-game NESCAC series tomorrow (Nov. 21) at 3 p.m.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • After two scoreless periods, the Mammoths struck first in the third as Elizabeth Holubiak got the puck to Daly in the defensive zone and Daly took it all the way to the other end to score Amherst's first goal of the new campaign. All-American goalie Caitlin Walker started the play and earned an assist.
  • The Continentals took the lead with two quick strikes just 17 seconds apart. Curry poked in the game-tying goal at the 10:38 mark and Abby Smith scored her first collegiate goal to give Hamilton the lead.
  • Curry added her second of the game at the 14:29 mark of the third period.
  • Sidney Molnar made 31 saves to earn the win in goal for the Continentals.
