Mammoths Go On The Road, Sweep UMass Boston

BOSTON, MA – The Amherst College women's volleyball team backed up two weekend victories at the Hall of Fame Tournament with a mid-week win Tuesday night at UMass Boston. The Mammoths defeated the Beacons 3-0 in straight sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-20) to capture their fourteenth victory of the season and move to 14-3 overall and 5-3 in the NESCAC. UMass Boston falls to 11-12 overall and 4-3 in the Little East Conference.

On Tuesday night, the Mammoths stuck with the personnel strategy that has propelled them to 14 wins. Sophie Launsbach '22 – the NESCAC leader in Hitting % (.468) – finished the match with seven kills on 14 attempts (50%). Launsbach is also sixth in the NESCAC in kills per set this season with 3.15 kills.
Jamie Dailey '22 recorded 11 kills, seven digs, and two service aces, finishing the match with a team-leading 13 points. Dailey is currently leading the NESCAC in kills per set (4.02 kills) and points per set (4.61 points).

Caroline Tilton '23 (6 kills) and Anaya Thomas '25 (6 kills, 7 digs) contributed critically to the offensive effort for the Mammoths, as they have all season. On the defensive side, Lizzie Papalia '25 and Sami Underwood '23 led the way for Amherst, recording nine and eight digs, respectively.

Carly Cooper '24 set up the offense for the Mammoths with 30 assists and five service aces. The Nashville, TN native has had an impressive sophomore campaign as the Mammoth setter and sits fourth in the NESCAC in assists per set (8.35 assists).

UMass Dartmouth turned in a solid offensive performance behind Emilia Czapiewska (13 kills), Marcelle Tiscareno (11 kills), and Livia Trindade (7 kills), but were unable to slow down the Mammoth offense and recorded 13 fewer digs and six fewer service aces than the visitors from Amherst.

The Mammoths look forward to their final weekend of regular season NESCAC Volleyball as they welcome Hamilton College to Lefrak Gymnasium on Friday night October 29 @ 7PM and archrival Williams College to Lefrak Gymnasium Saturday afternoon October 30 @ 2PM.
