Mammoths Pick Up Fourth Loss of the Season vs Hamilton

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College women's volleyball team played a five-set thriller against Hamilton College on October 29th in their own Lefrak Gymnasium, but ultimately fell in a close game to the Continentals by a score of 3-2. It was the Mammoths fourth loss of the season, dropping their overall record to 14-4 and NESCAC record to 5-4. Hamilton moves to 7-11 overall and 3-6 in the NESCAC.

On Friday night, the Mammoths and Continentals battled through five sets with the final card reading 25-27, 25-7, 20-25, 25-15, 13-15 in favor of Hamilton. After dropping the opening set in extra points, the Mammoths easily controlled the second and fourth sets using their high-powered offense and forcing several errors from Hamilton in both periods. Arriving at the final frame tied 2-2 in sets, the Mammoths committed five errors of their own and eventually dropped the final period, 13-15.

Jamie Dailey '22 led the Mammoths with 21 kills, five aces, one block, and 17 digs, adding another strong performance to her impressive resume this season. Sophie Launsbach '22 and Caroline Tilton '23 contributed to another critical NESCAC match with 14 kills and 9 kills, respectively.

The Amherst defense was strong, led by Carly Cooper '24 recording 17 digs and Lizzie Papalia '25 finishing the match with 12 digs. Cooper was also a key component of the Amherst offense that outscored Hamilton 77-58 in points over the five sets, as she had 47 assists. Papalia and Skyleur Savage '22 also contributed with two and one assists, respectively.

Hamilton's Kate Carman (20 kills), Deirdre Corrigan (15 kills), and Drew Stimson (7 kills) each had dominating play and accounted for the majority of the Hamilton offense as a trio.  

The Mammoths will play on October 30th against Williams at home, their final match before the NESCAC Quarterfinals.
