Amherst, MA - The Pioneers of Smith College traveled to Hill Field on the campus of Amherst College for a mid-week non- conference matchup. This game was dedicated to destigmatizing and promoting mental health awareness.
With the victory over the Pioneers, the Mammoths move to 10-3 on the season. Amherst returns to action at home Saturday, October 23th at 11 AM for a Senior Day NESCAC matchup verses Colby College.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Amherst got the scoring started just a few minutes in the 1
st quarter when first-year
Abbey Kays corralled a loose ball in the circle and placed it past the Pioneers goalkeeper.
- That served to be the only goal for the next 35 minutes of play as both teams battled.
- The offense was controlled by the Mammoths, with Amherst peppering the Pioneers goalkeeper, who faced 12 shots in the 2
nd and 3
rd quarters and turned them all away.

Sara Nidus made a clutch penalty stroke save for the purple in the 3rd quarter, keeping the contest 1-0 in favor of the Mammoths.

Sam Maynard around the stroke mark, who sent a reverse rocket to the back of the net, bringing the score to 2-0. Then, Amherst converted on a penalty corner opportunity, when junior
Sarah Edelson rocketed a shot in from the top of the circle, which found the stick of first-year
Muffie Mazambani, who redirected it to Maynard for her second tally of the night. Maynard has 10 goals on the season so far. Barely 45 seconds later, D'Alleva weaved in and out of Pioneer defenders and snuck the ball past the keeper, in an impressive individual effort, bringing the final score to 4-0.
