Amherst, MA - The Colby College Mules traveled to Hill Field for an 11AM NESCAC contest. This game was Senior Day for the Mammoths, honoring the careers of
Caroline Donahue and
Courtney Lowe. The Mammoths recorded a goal in all four quarters, in an all-around dominating 4-0 win.
With 2:43 left in the 1
st, the Mammoths tested the Mule's goalkeeper with four consecutive shots following a penalty corner opportunity, however none were successful. Just two minutes later, Amherst earned another penalty corner, where junior
Beth Williamson blasted a shot towards the net that bounced off a Mule's stick and was sent in the air. Sophomore
Muffie Mazambani batted the ball mid-air to the right of the goal for first-year
Sam Maynard, who tipped it past the Mule's keeper.
The Mammoths boosted their 1-0 lead and found their groove with two minutes left in the 2
nd when Mazambani collected a rebound off Colby's goalkeeper and sent it near-post to give the Mammoths a 2-0 lead.
Amherst kept rolling after halftime just minutes into the 3
rd when Mazambani controlled a pass from first-year
Abbey Kays at the top of the circle and blasted a shot, bringing the score to 3-0. Finally, the last tally of the game came from Maynard who reverse-shaved the ball in a scrum in front of the net, making the final score 4-0.
The Mammoths controlled possession for the majority of the contest, edging Colby in shots 25-7, and corners 11-4. Colby keeper, Hattie Baker ended with 15 saves while
Sara Nidus finished with 5 saves for the Mammoths.
With this win, Amherst moves to 11-3 on the season and 6-3 in NESCAC play. #7 Amherst will return to play Tuesday, October 26
th at 6PM when they host #9 Trinity College for their final regular-season game.
