Mammoths Battle Against Tufts, Come Up Short, 1-0

Taking on the #3 nationally ranked Tufts Jumbos, the #9 Amherst Mammoths came up short 1-0, in a tightly contested matchup.

With this setback, Amherst moves to 9-3 on the season and 5-3 in conference play. The Mammoths return to action on Tuesday, October 19th when they host neighborly rival, Smith College at 6PM. This game will be dedicated to Mental Health Awareness.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Tufts got their offense started at the 9:49 minute mark in the 1st quarter when grad student, Beth Krikorian weaved through the attacking circle and blasted a shot from the top, which found its way in the back of the net. That served to be the only goal of the game between these two teams.
  • Play continued to go back and forth with Tufts just edging out Amherst in corners 3-2 and shots 8-5.
  • Amherst was relentless with their pressure on ball, as junior Natalie Hobbs intercepted a transfer from Tufts backfield and took the jumbos goalkeeper 1v1 early in the 4th.
  • Amherst controlled momentum in the last minutes of the contest, forcing the jumbos goalkeeper to make two of her four saves of the game, but were unable to convert.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Sara Nidus made four saves in net for the Mammoths and Sophia Kaplan registered a defensive save.
