BOSTON, Mass. – Registering their eighth sweep of the season, the Amherst College volleyball team made quick work of the Saints as the Mammoths captured 25-12, 25-11, 25-18 set victories to post a 3-0 sweep of non-conference foe Emmanuel College Tuesday evening at the Jean Yawkey Center.
With the win, Amherst improves to 11-1 on the season, while Emmanuel drops to 7-10 overall. The Mammoths return to the court on Friday, October 15 when they travel to Tufts University for a 7:00PM matchup at Cousens Gym.
SET NOTES
- Trading points early in the opening set, the Mammoths used a 9-2 run to take a comfortable 11-4 lead. Going point-for-point until the 14-7 mark, Amherst broke away down the stretch, posting six unanswered points before recording the final three points via a service error and two attack errors to earn the 25-12 win.
- In set two the Saints stayed within striking distance until the midway point as Amherst rattled off 12 straight points to charge ahead, 22-6, before a Sami Underwood '23 kill and Emmanuel attack error clinched the 25-11 victory.
- The third and final set was the most closely contested of the match, with the sides staying within three points of each other until the final stretch. Locked in an 18-18 deadlock, Amherst battled to the 25-18 victory as the Mammoths used three attack errors, three aces from senior Jamie Dailey, and a Dailey kill to tally the final seven points of the set.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Amherst owned the advantage in all major statistical categories, outpacing the Saints in kills (33-17), aces (7-2), assists (31-17), and digs (51-45) while holding the home team to a negative attack percentage (-.081).
- With 10 kills, first-year Anaya Thomas led all players, while Dailey and Sophie Launsbach finished the night with nine and six kills, respectively. Chloe Chanren '24 notched three blocks for the Mammoths and sophomore Carly Cooper's 15 assists was a contest-best. Jacqueline Kortekaas '23 paced the Mammoths in digs with 11.
- Sasha Hyacinthe, Rachel Coleman, and Tatiana Correia were the top-three Saints in the bout, with Hyacinthe logging four kills, Coleman dishing out 14 assists, and Correia tallying a match-high 17 digs.
