Strong First Half Helps No. 12 Amherst Stave Off Dickinson, 13-7

CLERMONT, Fla. – Amherst College's Rachel Passarelli '16 scored four goals to help the 12th-ranked Purple & White hold on for a 13-7 victory over Dickinson College Thursday afternoon in Clermont, Fla.

With the win, Amherst concludes its Spring Break Trip 2-0 and improves to 3-1 on the season.

FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS

  • Amherst was quick out of the gate, scoring four goals in the first 19:40. Mary Grace Cronin '18 scored twice and added an assist, while Mia Haughton '16 and Passarelli each added a score to give the Purple & White a 4-0 lead.
  • Dickinson got onto the board with 7:04 to play in the first half when Maddy Siebold found  the back of the net on a free position shot, before Passarelli scored on a feed from Haughton with 2:22 to play in the period to set the halftime score at 5-1.

SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS

  • In a back-and-forth second half, Siebold capitalized with another free position goal, before Passarelli and Coco Kusiak '17 each scored to make it 7-2. Hanna Krueger '17 provided the helper on Passarelli's third marker of the contest.
  • Siebold answered for Dickinson at the 22:03 mark following a dish from Maddie Parker, before Claire Cagnassola '17 and Kusiak both benefited from Haughton passes to make it 9-3 with 20:49 to play in the contest.
  • From there, the sides exchanged goals with Sam Marmo, Anne Dunster, Jennifer Morrissey and Siebold scoring for Dickinson. Dunster dished out two assists during the span.
  • Amherst received goals from Julia Crerend '18, Haughton, Devin O'Connor '16 and Passarelli, with O'Connor's goal coming a man-up and aided by Krueger.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Rowena Schenck '18, Kusiak, Krueger, and Christy Forrest '16 picked up three ground balls each to lead Amherst, while Lindsey Call '19 led the team with four draw controls.
  • Forrest made 11 saves in the winning effort, including eight in the first half.
  • Tara Cuddihy led Dickinson with five ground balls, while also making five stops between the pipes in the losing effort.
