Box Score LEWISTON, Maine – The No. 9 Amherst College women's lacrosse team was edged by Bates College, 8-7 in Saturday afternoon's NESCAC contest in Lewiston, Maine despite three goals from Kate Wyeth '18.

FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS
- In the first half, Bates got off to a quick start as Kaileigh Maguire put the Bobcats ahead 1-0 at the 28:37 mark. Maguire then assisted a scoring strike by Emma Brinkman two minutes later to give Bates a 2-0 lead.
- At the 25:20 mark, Maguire found the back of the net for the second time, before Brinkman added her second tally of the contest at the 16:16 mark to make it 4-0.
- Amherst rallied to score three of the next four goals as Claire Cagnassola '18, Rachel Passarelli '16 and Wyeth each scorched the net to set the score at 5-3 in favor of Bates with 3:09 to play in the first half. Passarelli provided the helper on Cagnassola's score, and Cagnassola aided Wyeth's marker.
- Camille Belletete added a score for the Bobcats at the 12:05 mark to round out the scoring for the first half.
SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS
- Brinkman collected her third goal of the game 3:55 into the second stanza, before Cagnassola and Wyeth answered with goals for Amherst to set the score at 6-5 in favor of the Bobcats. Mia Haughton '16 provided the assists on both goals, including Wyeth's marker at the 19:23 mark which was on the advantage.
- Alex Briody scored at the 18:51 mark, and Wyeth returned the favor with her third goal of the contest following a nice feed from Passarelli to make it 7-6 with 17:17 remaining.
- Brinkman added another tally to give Bates an 8-6 edge at the 13:36 mark, before Christy Forrest '16 distributed a pass to Mary Grace Cronin '18 who found the nylon to pull the Purple & White to within one (8-7) just 26 seconds later.
- Despite another shot on frame from Cagnassola, and two more by Passarelli, including one with 32 seconds remaining, Bobcats' goalie Hannah Jeffrey made three critical stops to preserve the win.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Katie Paolano '16 led Amherst with three ground balls, while Passarelli notched seven shots in the losing effort. Between the pipes, Forrest made a pair of stops.
- Kara Le led Bates with five ground balls, while Allison Dewey caused three turnovers. Jeffrey notched 10 saves to secure the win.
