No.4 Jeffs Down No. 20 Bates, 8-1

AMHERST, Mass. – The fourth-ranked Amherst College men's tennis team improved to 7-0 in NESCAC play with an 8-1 victory over No. 20 Bates College on Friday afternoon in Amherst, Mass.

With the win, Amherst improves to 18-4 overall (7-0 NESCAC) and has now won nine consecutive matches. Bates moves to 9-7 on the season, 4-3 in league play.

Amherst roared out of the gate in doubles action as juniors Aaron Revzin and Michael Solimano posted an 8-3 win on court No. 1. Andrew Yaraghi '16 and Anton Zykov '17 cruised to an 8-0 win on court No. 2, while Russell Einbinder '16 and Andrew Scheiner '15 earned an 8-1 win on court No. 3 to give the Jeffs a 3-0 lead in the contest.

In singles action, Yaraghi fell behind, 5-7 in the opening set on court No. 1, but battled past Pierre Planche in the next two sets, 6-2, 10-6. Solimano, Revzin, and Sean Rodriguez '15 each won in straight sets on courts 2-4, while the Bobcats received a three-set win from Ben Rosen on court five (6-4, 4-6, 11-9) to secure Bates' lone win of the contest. Andrew Arnaboldi '17 delivered the Purple & White's final victory from the No. 6 slot as he cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win.

Amherst returns to NESCAC action, Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m. when it hosts No. 6 Middlebury College.
