AMHERST, Mass. – The sixth-ranked Amherst College men's soccer team scored twice in the span of seven minutes in the first half, and senior goalkeeper Thomas Bull set an NCAA Division III men's soccer record with his 48th career shutout to help lift the Purple & White to a 2-0 victory over No. 15 Lycoming College in Saturday afternoon's NCAA Sweet 16 contest at Hitchcock Field.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
- Amherst , which held a 9-4 advantage in shots in the first half, drew first blood in the 18th minute when Jackson Lehnhart '17 placed a perfect long throw in to Andrew Orozco '17 who finished with his fourth goal of the season to give the Purple & White a 1-0 lead.
- Just seven minutes later, Amherst was awarded a penalty kick, and Nico Pascual-Leone '16 delivered a sensational spot kick – his second of the year – for his team-leading 12th marker of the campaign.
- Trailing 2-0 following the break, Lycoming got on the offensive early, as Abdullahi Abdi ripped a shot on goal that Bull turned aside to keep the two-goal lead in the 47th minute of play.
- Christopher Martin '17 had an opportunity to put the Purple & White ahead by three goals, but his shot went inches wide of the post at the 54:50 mark.
- Lycoming answered with another good look of its own through Abdi who corralled a pass and headed the ball on goal, but his attempt was collected by Bull.
- Late in the contest, Aziz Khan '18 had two shots, one was blocked and one sailed just wide, while Bryce Ciambella '17 blasted a shot that was stopped by the Warriors' backline.
- Orozco led Amherst with three shots, while Luke Nguyen '19, Martin, Pascual-Leone, Greg Singer '16, Ciambella and Khan each had two for the Purple & White who outshot Lycoming, 17-13 in the game.
- Abdi led the visitors with five shots, including two one net, while Kyle Stettenbauer added two shots in the losing effort.
- Bull made five saves in the winning effort en route to his 14th clean sheet, while Josh Gildea made a pair of saves in the loss.

- Amherst is making its third NCAA Elite 8 appearance in the last four years, and fourth since 2008.
- With his 48th career clean sheet, Bull passes Mac Church of Ohio Northern who totaled 47 shutouts between 2009-12. The Montgomery, N.J. native now has a 0.21 goals against average (four goals allowed), and 62 saves this season.

- Amherst will meet No. 2 Trinity University (Texas) in the sectional final Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Hitchcock Field. The Tigers dispatched No. 3 Brandeis University in Saturday's other Sweet 16 contest.
