BALTIMORE, Md. - The reigning national champion Amherst College men's tennis team edged Johns Hopkins Saturday in its 2014-15 dual-match opener at the Morgan State Tennis Courts, 5-4.

The Jeffs open the season 1-0, while dropping the Blue Jays to 0-1.

Amherst took the doubles point, 2-1, while tying Johns Hopkins in singles play, 3-3. The No. 2 doubles team of Russell Einbinder and Michael Solimano '16 defeated Nicholas Garcia and Noah Joachim, 8-4. In the No. 3 spot, Andrew Arnaboldi '17 and Andrew Yaraghi '16 won a decisive 8-3 match against Tanner Brown and Justin Kang.

Aaron Revzin '16, Yaraghi and Arnaboldi all claimed matches in singles action as well. Revzin, playing in the No. 2 spot, defeated Ben Hwang by scores of 7-5, 6-1. Yaraghi edged Brown from the No. 3 position, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 and Arnaboldi pulled off an impressive come-from-behind win in the No. 6 spot. After falling 6-7 (4-7) in set one, he retaliated to take sets two and three 6-3 each.

Several Jeffs also competed in Day One action at the Wallach Invitational, hosted by Bates College. Sean Rodriguez '15 earned the only Amherst win as he advanced to the second round by edging Josh Leiner of Bates, 4-6, 6-4, 10-7, but fell short to Clifford Traft of Trinity.

Amherst returns to the courts tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 12th to face Carnegie Mellon.
