HARTFORD, Conn. – The fifth-seeded Amherst women's soccer team fell to fourth-seeded Trinity, 2-1 in NESCAC quarterfinal action on Saturday.
Trinity improves to 12-4 on the season with their first-ever NESCAC Championship win. Amherst falls to 9-3-3 overall.
Saturday's matchup marked the first conference postseason meeting between the two teams.
The Jeffs opened the game by applying consistent pressure on the offensive end. Amherst capitalized on their early opportunities when senior Sarah Duffy struck the ball from the far right side of the field and placed it perfectly into the top left corner of the Trinity net to put the Jeffs on top, 1-0.
In the later stages of the opening half, sophomore Julia Leahy found Karyn Barrett '15 wide open in front of the Amherst goal, setting up Barrett for the game-tying score.
It didn't take long into the second half for Trinity to gain the lead, when Barrett set Abbey Lake '16 up for what would turn out to be the game-winning goal, just over three minutes into the half.
Holly Burwick '16 finished the game with six saves in net for the Jeffs. Sophomore goalkeeper Monica DiFiori made five stops for Trinity.
In an evenly matched contest, the Bantams narrowly edged Amherst in shots (13-12) while both teams posted five corner kicks apiece.
