Women's Lacrosse Bumps Win Streak to Four

ORLANDO, Fla. – The 11th-ranked Amherst women's lacrosse team extended its win streak to four with a 12-7 victory over William Smith at the National Training Center in Orlando, Fla.

Marta Randall '13 (Monkton, Md.), Allie Horwitz '12 (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Krista Zsitvay '14 (New Vernon, Conn.) paved the way for the Jeffs offensively, each netting three goals, with Horwitz also adding a pair of assists.

Rosie Scheibel '12 tallied three goals for William Smith, while Kathleen Ragan '13 and Katie Sipple '15 combined for a goal and four helpers.

Trailing 3-2 after a Scheibel score at the 19:27 mark of the first, Amherst reeled off seven consecutive goals to close out the half, taking a 9-3 lead at the intermission. Horwitz got the run started with a score at 17:33, before Randall helped the Jeffs regain the lead with a goal just 33 seconds later. 

Zsitvay made it three in a row for Amherst with a tally at 15:25 before consecutive Horwitz goals 23 seconds apart pushed the Jeff lead to 7-3. Randall then buried an unassisted score at 12:42 before Zsitvay netted the Purple & White's ninth goal with under 10 to go in the frame.

Scheibel opened up the second half scoring with her second of the afternoon with 20:44 remaining in regulation, before Ragan trimmed the William Smith deficit to four with a goal less than three minutes later.

Zsitvay helped Amherst regain the momentum with a free-position tally at 15:33 as the Jeffs outscored their counterparts 3-2 down the stretch to seal the 12-7 victory.

Amherst held a 25-17 shot advantage with both teams tracking down 13 ground balls. Combining to go 15-for-15 on clears, the Jeffs helped force 13 Heron turnovers.

Lamia Harik '12 (Rye Brooke, N.Y.) made five saves to improve to 4-1, while Maggie McNair '14 had six stops in the loss.

Amherst returns to action on Wednesday, Mar. 28 at Springfield.
