Amherst's Harmeling Grabs Trio of Women's Lacrosse Weekly Honors

AMHERST, MA - Having already earned NESCAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week honors on Monday, Amherst College senior forward Ashley Harmeling (N. Reading, MA) was also named InsideLacrosse.com Division III National Player of the Week, Womenslacrosse.com Division III National Player of the Week and ECAC Shamrock Lacrosse Division III New England Player of the Week on Wednesday after scoring nine goals and dishing out five assists in wins over Springfield and Williams. 

Harmeling tallied five goals and an assist in Wednesday's 14-11 non-conference victory at Springfield, and followed with eight points on four goals and four assists in a 13-8 conference-opening win at Williams on Saturday, as Amherst handed the Ephs their second loss of the season and moved to 3-0 on the year. She currently leads the NESCAC in scoring (7.00 pts/gm) and assists (2.50 pts/gm) and ranks second in goals (4.50/gm). 

Harmeling's senior season follows an impressive junior campaign in which she tallied 127 points on 75 goals and 52 assists, leading the NESCAC in all three categories. Among other accolades, Harmeling was named Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Attacker of the Year, ECAC New England Player of the Year and NESCAC Player of the Year. She also grabbed First-Team IWLCA All-America, First-Team womenslacrosse.com All-America, ECAC New England All-Star, First-Team IWLCA All-New England and First-Team All-NESCAC honors.

A three-sport athlete, Harmeling holds Amherst women's soccer single-season records for goals (19) and points (42), was named the 2003 NESCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Year and finished as the 43rd-ranked women's squash player in the nation after reaching the semifinals of the Holleran Cup at the 2005 College Squash Association individual championships. 

Amherst women's lacrosse opens its 2005 home slate today (Wednesday) at 4:30 p.m. against visiting eighth-ranked NESCAC rival Trinity College.
