Harmeling Leads Third-Ranked Jeffs Past Williams, 13-8

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - Senior forward Ashley Harmeling (N. Reading, MA) scored four goals and dished out four assists to lead the third-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team to a 13-8 victory at NESCAC archrival Williams College in the Jeffs' conference opener on Saturday. Amherst remained undefeated at 3-0, while Williams fell to 3-2 (0-2 NESCAC).

Junior Caitie Parker (Bethesda, MD) led the Jeffs' first-half onslaught, finding the net four times to build an 8-3 advantage at the break. Amherst picked up right where it left off after the half, scoring three goals in the first six minutes and another at the 12:24-mark to stretch the lead to 12-3. Williams rallied and scored five consecutive goals to cut the deficit to four with just over three minutes left in regulation, but the Ephs would get no closer as Harmeling capped her outstanding performance with an unassisted tally with 1:10 left to play.

Parker finished with five goals, while sophomore Lauren Dudley (Baltimore, MD) tallied two goals and fellow sophomores Alyssa Briody (Hopewell, NJ) and Liz Wise (Scarsdale, NY) each scored once. Briody had three assists as well and Dudley dealt one.

Senior co-captain goalie Liv D'Ambrosio (Farmington, CT) needed only five saves to pick up the win as the Jeffs outshot Williams 27-14. Senior Amy Wicker led Williams with three goals and an assist, while senior Ann Woods grabbed 14 saves in goal.

Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. against visiting NESCAC foe Trinity College.
