AMHERST, MA - Amherst College senior women's lacrosse forward Ashley Harmeling (N. Reading, MA) earned her second consecutive InsideLacrosse.com Division III National Player of the Week and NESCAC Player of the Week awards after combining for nine goals and two assists in a pair of conference wins over eighth-ranked Trinity College and 10th-ranked Colby.
Harmeling scored the game-winner and racked up four goals and an assist in Wednesday's 12-9 overtime win over Trinity, and followed with five goals and an assist in Saturday's 13-9 win over Colby as the third-ranked Jeffs remained undefeated at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play. She also combined for eight ground balls, eight draw controls and 11 caused turnovers in the two wins and leads the NESCAC in scoring (6.25 pts/gm) and stands second in goals (4.50/gm) and assists (1.75/gm).
In her junior season, Harmeling smashed the school marks for goals (75), assists (52) and points (127) and guided the Jeffs to their fourth straight NCAA Division III Final Four. Her outstanding numbers earned her a slew of postseason awards, including Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Attacker of the Year, ECAC New England Player of the Year and NESCAC Player of the Year. She was also named First-Team IWLCA and womenslacrosse.com All-America, First-Team IWLCA All-New England, an ECAC New England All-Star and First-Team All-NESCAC.
A three-sport standout, Harmeling holds Amherst women's soccer single-season records for goals (19) and points (42), was named the 2003 NESCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Year and finished as the 43rd-ranked women's squash player in the nation after reaching the semifinals of the Holleran Cup at the 2005 College Squash Association individual championships.
Amherst returns to action today (Thursday) at 4:30 p.m. against visiting NESCAC rival Connecticut College.
