NEW LONDON, NH - The Amherst College women's basketball team fell victim to an 11-0 run at the start of the second half en route to a 55-46 loss to the host Chargers in the championship game of the Colby-Sawyer Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday. Colby-Sawyer improved to 2-0 on the year, while Amherst dropped to 1-1.
Tournament MVP K.J. Krasco (Medford, Mass.) led the way for Colby-Sawyer, scoring 14 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Kristen Sorensen (Coventry, Conn.) added 11 points, and Amy Beaton (Haverhill, Mass.) chipped in with 10 for the Chargers. Stacey Hildreth (Winchester, N.H.) added six points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Colby-Sawyer played much of the second half without all-tournament selection Jaime Peterman (Nottingham, N.H.), who left with an injury at the 17:53 mark and did not return.
Amherst was led by Shaina Pollack (Great Neck, N.Y.) with 12 points. Jenny Muller (Andover, Mass.) and Matia Kostakis (Andover, Mass.) added 10 points apiece. Both Pollack and Amherst junior Katie Latham (Wakefield, MA) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Amherst returns to action Tuesday at 7 p.m. against visiting non-league foe Mt. Holyoke College.
