SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT - The Amherst College men's hockey team remained undefeated with a 6-3 win at ECAC East rival St. Michael's College on Friday. Junior Scott Aldrich (Wilmington, MA) had two goals and an assist, senior Josh Hoffman (Ambler, PA) scored two goals and junior Roy Mabrey (Needham, MA) had a goal and two assists as the Jeffs improved to 5-0-1.
Aldrich scored the first of three Amherst first-period goals at the 5:02-mark off feeds from Mabrey and senior Mike Kreger (Glenview, IL), and Hoffman doubled the Jeff lead 10 minutes later on a Bradford Craigen (Kitchener, Ontario) assist. Mabrey scored his first goal of the year as Aldrich returned the favor with 1:45 left in the opening session.
The Jeffs kept the heat on in the second period as Aldrich scored his third goal of the year, again on a Mabrey assist, and Hoffman and Craigen teamed up again to press the lead to 5-0. First-year Sean Ellis (Springfield, MA) capped Amherst's scoring in the final period on assists from sophomore Jack Greeley (Scituate, MA) and junior Jonathon Hill (Averill Park, NY). St. Michael's rallied a comeback, using third-period goals from Alex Watts, Andy Rousseau and Spencer Williams, but could not overcome the deficit. Amherst first-year goalie Josh Fillman (Charlestown, MA) collected 33 saves, while Andy Joy turned away 29 shots in the loss, as the Purple Knights fell to 3-2.
Amherst returns to action tomorrow at 3 p.m. at ECAC East rival Norwich University.
