Jeffs Defeat WNEC, 3-1

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College men's soccer team defeated visiting non-conference foe Western New England College (WNEC) 3-1 on Tuesday. Senior quad-captains Michael York (Natick, MA) and Franklin Perry (Hartford, CT) scored the game-tying and game-winning goals, respectively, as the Jeffs improve to 8-2-1.

WNEC jumped ahead early when sophomore Scott Meikle (Bethel, CT) took a throw-in from classmate Mike Schnepp (Feeding Hills, MA) and headed it into the net just 1:38 into the game. The Jeffs evened the score just past the 19-minute mark when York netted his fourth goal of the year on a penalty kick. Perry put Amherst ahead for good as he slammed a header home off a beautiful corner kick from senior quad-captain Jeff Cantwell (Randolph, NJ) at the 55:28 mark. York led a breakaway with just under 29 minutes remaining and fed sophomore standout Joe Gannon (Hanson, MA) for his sixth goal of the season to cap the Jeffs' scoring.

Junior Dan Glenn (Berkeley, CA) had six saves in net and sophomore Greg Lockwood (Vancouver, CA) collected one for the Jeffs. WNEC sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Koch (Chester, NY) had 12 saves as the Golden Bears fall to 3-7-3.

Amherst hosts NESCAC and Little Three rival Wesleyan University Saturday at 11 a.m.
