HENNIKER, NH - After rallying for a 5-4 victory over Massachusetts College on Saturday, the Amherst College men's hockey team was downed at ECAC East foe New England College, 5-2, Friday night. With the loss, the Jeffs fall to 4-11-2 overall and 4-7-1 in league play, while the Pilgrims improve to 11-5-0 and 8-4-0.
New England took a 3-0 lead into the final period. Jeff first-year forward Steve Nelson (Wayzata, MN) tallied his eighth goal of the season 23 seconds into the third, cutting the lead to 3-1. The Pilgrims extended the lead to 4-1 when Adam Wallace scored. The Jeffs countered when senior defender Erich Schram (Madison, WI) tickled the twine to cut the deficit to 4-2. New England tacked on an empty-netter to seal the 5-2 victory.
Rookie goaltender Sean Lynch (Essex Junction, VT) finished with 28 saves for the Jeffs, while Michael Shimek notched 22.
Amherst returns to action Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at ECAC East foe St. Anselm College.
