WALTHAM, MA - The Amherst College men's tennis team took five out of six singles matches and posted a pair of doubles wins to trounce host Brandeis University, 6-1, on Tuesday. The victory evened the Jeffs' fall record at 1-1 with one dual match remaining - an October 10 test at division I power UMass-Amherst, starting at 3 p.m.
Amherst senior Bryan Wexler (West Newbury, MA) led the way with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Brandeis' Dave Block in No. 1 singles. Senior George Tsai (Tampa, FL), sophomore Andrew Merle (Lynnfield, MA), junior Andy Sagor (Scarsdale, NY) and first-year Will Abbott (Katonah, NY) followed suit with a quadrant of Amherst wins in No. 3 through 6 singles, respectively.
Amherst junior Andy Tsai (Tampa, FL) - who posted a hard-fought singles loss (7-5, 5-7, tie-break 3-7) to Brandeis' No. 2 Tomas Wallenberg - teamed with senior co-captain Peter Ransmeier (Concord, NH) to down Block and Adam Schiff, 8-5, in No. 1 doubles. Amherst's Merle and Sagor also won their No. 2 doubles match over Wallenberg and Gary Falkowitz, 8-2.
