AMHERST, MA - Amherst College put three different players in the scoring column as the Jeffs dismantled visiting Springfield College 3-0 in a non-league men's soccer matchup on Tuesday.
Junior Ryan Goodband (Needham, MA) scored off a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Carlo Valdesolo (Andover, MA) to put Amherst ahead 1-0 in the 11th minute. Senior midfielder Judson Coplan (Chevy chase, MD) then took a throw-in from rookie Bradford Coffey (Yarmouth, ME) and deflected it off a Springfield defender to extend the lead to 2-0 lead at the 64:47 mark. Just five minutes later, sophomore midfielder Chris Kane (Marblehead, MA) iced the game with a right-footed shot over the head of Springfield goaltender Derek Bostic (Naugatuck, CT), assisted by first-year midfielder Tim Canon (Easthampton, MA).
Junior goalkeeper Bill Orum (Greenwich, CT) combined with classmate Anders Watson (Chicago, IL) for the shutout, as Amherst improved to 6-5-2 on the season. Springfield fell to 7-7 overall with the loss.
The Jeffs are still alive in the NESCAC postseason picture and can ensure a spot in the conference tournament with a home-win against Trinity College on Saturday. Game-time is set for 11 a.m.
