Men's Basketball Opens up with Two Wins

Coming off their second-ever NCAA appearance, Amherst men's basketball opened up the 1997-98 campaign with a pair of wins at the Ramapo Tournament. Senior Tri-Captain Billy Skorupski (North Hatfield, MA) was named the MVP of the tournament as he averaged 16 points and nine rebounds in two games. Fellow captain John Pavelski (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ) kicked off his senior season with a 23-point show against SUNY-Old Westbury before tallying 17 in the Championship game against host Ramapo. Pavelski ups his career total to 1,126 points as Amherst's 10th All-Time leading scorer, and the senior was named to the All-Tournament team.
