AMHERST, MA. – Four members of the Amherst College men's basketball team were accorded College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors when they were announced earlier today: senior captain
Bobby Sommers, juniors
Drew Martin and
Chris Hammond and sophomore
Marc Garraud.
The Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 and have played in 90 percent or started 66 percent of their team's games to be eligible.
Sommers is a film and media studies and psychology major from Southborough, Massachusetts. He made 25 appearances for the Mammoths, with 24 starts, averaging 9.0 points and 5.2 rebounds this season. A stalwart defender who notched 34 steals this season, Sommers earns his second straight All-District selection in 2024-25.
Garraud is undeclared and hails from Lynn, Massachusetts. The sophomore point guard played every game, with 21 starts, and averaged 9.0 points and 2.3 assists per game in 21 starts while directing the Amherst offense.
Hammond is an art & art history and psychology double major from Los Angeles, California. He averaged 9.7 points and 4.2 rebounds in 25 games with 21 starts this season. A premier threat from the downtown, Hammond shot 35 percent from three this season. He earns his second consecutive CSC Academic All-District selection this year.
Martin, from Roxbury, Massachusetts, is an english and math double major. He played in every game this season for the Mammoths, making one start. As one of Amherst's most consistent players off the bench, he averaged 2.8 points and 2.6 rebounds this season.
The Mammoths finished 13-12 this season, and made an appearance in the NESCAC quarterfinal, where they lost a heartbreaker to top-seeded Wesleyan.
