Dave Cunningham '16

A 2016 graduate of Amherst College, Dave Cunningham was named the Hitchcock Fellow, and will serve as an assistant baseball and men's ice hockey coach, the assistant director for intramurals, and an athletic communications contributor.

In addition to being a two-sport standout at Amherst in both baseball and men's ice hockey, Cunningham was an English major with a focus in film and media studies and poetry. He was a three-year contributor for the student newspaper, and completed a journalism intership with New England Sports Network (NESN) during his junior year.

On the baseball diamond, the Arlington, Mass. native helped the Purple & White clinch the 2013 NESCAC championship, and helped guide the team to three NCAA Division III Regional appearances. A catcher for the first year and a half of his collegiate career, Cunningham garnered All-NESCAC honors as a first baseman during his senior year after batting .354 with four home runs, and 24 RBI. He also earned the team's Gold Glove award for the best fielding percentage (.996) in 2016.

On the ice, Cunningham played between the pipes and helped Amherst appear in three consecutive NESCAC title games, including a championship crown in 2015 as the Purple & White advanced to the NCAA Division III Frozen Four. An all-NESCAC goaltender as a sophomore, Cunningham earned the Bob Hanford Award for MVP of the team that season, and later earned NESCAC All-Sportsmanship honors as a senior. Cunningham completed his career with a .925 save percentage, 2.14 goals against average, and a 30-14-6 overall record.

Cunningham, who worked for Stop It Goaltending Academy throughout his college career, has begun recruiting duties, working several baseball and hockey showcases around the country.
