Mitchell Thompson returns to the Amherst College football coaching staff in 2026 as the team’s wide receivers and tight ends coach after most recently serving as the wide receivers coach at Dartmouth College during the 2025 season.

Prior to his time at Dartmouth, Thompson spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator at Bates College from 2022–24. During his tenure with the Bobcats, Bates produced its two highest-scoring offenses in the previous 15 years.

Thompson’s return to Amherst marks his third stint with the Mammoths. From 2017 through 2021, he coached the wide receivers, helping produce five All-NESCAC selections over four seasons. Thompson began his coaching career at Amherst, working with the outside linebackers during the Mammoths’ 2014 and 2015 NESCAC Championship seasons.

A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Thompson is a 2014 graduate of Washington and Lee University, where he was a two-time All-Conference defensive back. He served as a team captain and helped lead the Generals to ODAC championships in 2010 and 2012.
